2024 Promises to be a Busy Year!
Top 5 things we're looking forward to in 2024
  1. Sharing our Strategic Plan
Over the past several months, our staff has been working on a new strategic plan to guide our work for the next three years. We’ve been busy at work revising our mission, exploring new opportunities, and deepening our roots for sustainable growth. We are excited to share it with you in the near future!
  2. Partnering with Boston’s Tree Alliance
This will be an exciting year of partnership with the City of Boston, Mass Audubon, Speak for the Trees, residents, and institutions to plant trees on private property. We kicked off our first Alliance planting in November of 2023 and are excited to dig in in 2024.
  3. Going on Community Tree Walks
For the past year, we’ve hosted several “Community Tree Walks” that aim to strengthen a deeper connection with nature and promote environmental awareness within the Boston community. This spring, we’ll be sharing these immersive experiences with a wider audience and cultivate a shared appreciation for the city's urban green spaces and the vital role trees play in enhancing our community and overall well-being. Here’s a

  4. Developing New Programs and Expanding Current Ones
We are creating new programs to deepen partnerships and collaborations, including our TreeKeepers program, which will provide training on tree care and advocacy and expansion of our teen tree watering efforts into new neighborhoods.
  5. Growing Together
And, of course, planting and giving away trees in Environmental Justice neighborhoods of Boston and celebrating together another season of tree cycles: budding, growth, and foliage.

A Strong Giving Finish to 2023

Our heartfelt thanks to the nearly 100 generous donors who made our end-of-year giving drive a HUGE success. Our December 2023 donations totaled more than $32,000, a 9% increase over December 2022. This will support more trees, tree care, tree learning, and tree appreciation in Boston in 2024.

Welcome Danya!

We welcome Danya Rifai to the Speak for the Trees team as a MassCEC Spring Intern. Danya will be working closely with the staff to plan this year’s Arbor Week events. Danya is interested in environmental justice and policy issues, and she believes everyone should have access to a healthy environment. She recently graduated from Suffolk University with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and a concentration in Environmental Policy. Her senior thesis focused on the correlation between green space and gentrification. She is a lover of nature, especially somewhere with a nice view. When she’s not at work, you can find her traveling, at a concert, or exploring new green spaces.

Meet our Members of our Teen Urban Tree Corps School-Year Program

We’re excited to welcome a group of 10 Boston teens to our Teen Urban Tree Corps School Year Program. Over the next several newsletters, we’ll be featuring them and their work. To start us off, meet Silvano and Abigail! (And, if you can't wait until next week, meet the rest of the teens on Instagram.)
