Some October Updates
Arbor Day Foundation Visit to Boston

On October 15 and 16, we had the pleasure of hosting Dan Lambe, CEO of the Arbor Day Foundation, and members of his team. As part of their visit to Boston we introduced them to the fruits of our partnership and the trees we've planted throughout Boston. (Plus, coming from Lincoln, NE, we got to introduce them to our favorite pupusas at Tu Metapan in East Boston!)

Tree Planting Training

As part of a collaboration with Mystic River Watershed Association, our Community Tree Specialist Jon Cheney trained 6 local "tree ambassadors" on how to properly plant trees. With help from Chelsea DPW and staff from MyRWA, we planted 5 trees at Malone Park. The ambassadors will take these skills and their learnings from our TreeKeepers curriculum back to their neighborhood and work with residents to plant dozens of trees in Chelsea, Somerville, and Everett.

What We Are Listening To

Stumpisode (from Terrestrials)

As dead as they seem, tree stumps are hubs of life and relationships. Co-host Lulu Miller is back with another season of her hit spinoff show Terrestrials , and to celebrate, we’re sharing the first episode with you. From stumps to snags, dead wood provides habitat for rodents, falcons, insects, and even humans. Stumps hold together the forest floor, give hunting perches to birds of prey in flatlands, prevent erosion and the encroachment of invasive species, usher in sunlight, provide nutrients, store renewable fuel, and hold onto stories human beings might have forgotten. Without these ghosts of trees past, nothing would be the same. Scottish author, artist and lover of tree stumps, Dr. Amanda Thomson, leads Lulu on a “tour de stumps,” a journey across space and time to learn about some of the most magical stumps on the planet.
