We are excited to introduce Roxanne as our new MassCEC Spring Intern. Roxanne grew up in Providence where she spent her summers at a Girl Scout camp in southern Rhode Island and grew a love for nature and the outdoors. She is a current master’s candidate at Simmons university studying public health with a concentration in social justice and health equity. Her goal is to address the poor health outcomes associated with environmental injustice.

In her internship, Roxanne will be developing a map to explore the relationship between trees and public health in Boston.

We are also looking forward to having Reegan as our new MassCEC Spring Intern. Reegan grew up outside of Orlando, FL and is now studying Environmental Studies, Sociology, and Public Health as a senior at Brandeis University. Reegan's love for trees stems from her first environmental studies course, during which she spent an hour per week outside, discovering how to identify different trees.

As a MassCEC intern, Reegan will be coordinating our ArborWeek events in late April.

The Dorchester Avenue Vision Committee is proposing the planting of approximately 30 new street trees, the construction of rain gardens, and planters in front of existing businesses. Since 2015, only three trees have been planted along the Columbia / Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester Avenue (not far from our offices). According to DAVC, this area has been overlooked for years and it is time to bring it into a brighter, greener future. Help them reach their goal by signing their petition to Mayor Wu.

The Emerald Ash Borer loves to munch on ash trees. After first landing in Michigan, these insects have reached Boston and our City's ash trees have begin to show signs of infestation. Boston's Urban Forest Plan team has created an online map that you can explore that shows all the ash trees located on public streets. They are working to assess the condition and next steps for Boston's ash trees. The extent of affected trees is unknown.
