A Mid-Summer Update
How our teens are keeping us cool

Our summer Teen Urban Tree Corps program is in full swing

For the past three weeks a group of 15 Boston teens in our Teen Urban Tree Corps program have been spending their days learning about tree biology, physiology, and identification. Tree walks, learning from experts, and tomorrow they get to learn how to prune with Boston's Tree Warden, Max Ford-Diamond.

They are also working on final projects in which they will create a tree planting and maintenance proposal for their neighborhoods. They have been visiting different sites in their communities in which their projects will take place. To help them with their project they have also been learning about green infrastructure and site planning.

Keep an eye out for these teens in their bright yellow SFTT hats as they explore the streets, trees, and parks of Boston. And stay tuned to this newsletter as we share with you updates about them and their work.

Support our work in growing Boston's environmental teen leaders (and trees)!

Come find us at an upcoming event

We have been so happy to see so many people interested in trees at the events we have tabled at so far. Thanks to the Roxbury/Dudley Town Common Farmers Market, Patagonia Cambridge, and Roxbury Unity Parade for welcoming us to connect with locals at your events.

If you still haven't met us don't worry! Keep an eye out for future tabling dates on our events page and our social media to see if we will be tabling near you.

Parks and Rec releases a Canopy Change Assessment map

Boston Park and Recreation has created a nifty interactive tool that allows you to explore the change in Boston's tree canopy from 2014 to 2019. Check out how your neighborhood (or parcel!) is fairing. This will help identify which neighborhoods are "under-treed". Make sure to check it out!
