We focus so much of our work locally, in Boston. But we wanted to share with you three pieces of TREEmendous news happening on the state and federal levels. These bills are sure to transform urban forestry here in Boston and across the nation.
First, as part of its America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, the state legislature included $25 million in tree planting across the state. Those funds will help the state grow its canopy in neighborhoods where it will make the biggest immediate impact. Second, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture held a hearing on Tuesday to consider H905/S504, An Act establishing the municipal reforestation program. We, alongside our allies at Gas Leaks Allies and other organizations, were honored to testify on a panel in support of this bill that would fund urban forest management and planting throughout the state, including in Boston. Finally, the federal Build Back Better Act has allocated almost $3 billion (yes, that's Billion with a B!) for urban forestry and tree equity. We're proud to see how our in Boston for the past 3 years has been on the forefront of an energized national movement. Thank you for joining us in growing our organization and our forest. |
