Turning over a new leaf...
Welcome our new staff

As the summer comes to an end, so does the time of two of our staff members, Eva Paradiso and Marilene Rivas-Chavez.

Eva has served as our Education Coordinator for over a year and has contributed to the growth and improvement of our Teen Urban Tree Corps program. Under Eva's guidance the summer TUTC program was able to expand into having a school year program for the first time.

Marilene has served as our Communications Intern since last summer. They've produced newsletter, social media, and so much more. Thank you Eva and Marilene for your work.

We're happy to have Josh Reed continue on this fall as Education Coordinator. Josh was our summer Teen Urban Tree Corps Program Director. He'll continue working with the teens this fall and supporting our curriculum development work.

Welcome Cece

We are excited to introduce Cece Lagomarsino as our MassCEC Fall Intern! Cece is looking forward to working with us since it will give her the chance to engage with local communities through an environmental perspective and also connect her to others who are passionate about urban policy.

Welcome Tiantian

We are excited to introduce Tiantian Zhu as our second MassCEC Intern! Tiantian is excited to contribute to the collaborative, innovative environmental equity and community empowerment efforts at Speak for the Trees.

Welcome Victoria

We are excited to introduce Victoria Leda as our College for Social Innovation Fellow! Victoria is passionate about pursuing a career in the environment and sees Speak for the Trees as a means to spread awareness on urban forestry.

Support Speak for the Trees through local art

Jamaica Plain Artist Anthony Apesos, who specializes in landscape and environmental art, will be selling his work during Jamaica Plain Open Studios 2022.

Apesos is a Boston-based fine artist who paints landscape scenes of life and death. His work is expansive and includes a collection on trees of the Arnold Arboretum located in Jamaica Plain (to see more of this collection and his other previous work, visit his website).

Apesos has generously committed to donate 50% of proceeds from his sales during Open Studios to Speak for the Trees. Be sure to stop by on September 24th or 25th to experience his artistry and consider purchasing to support us and our sustained commitment to the environment.

Tuesday September 13 marked the start of our TUTC School Year Program

We have 5 teens from our Summer TUTC program who will continue the work of watering and caring for street trees in Dorchester. The teens will be meeting twice a week in the evening through the end of October. We’re excited to have TUTC participants returning who are passionate about this work and eager to continue learning about urban forestry. As the Fall watering program winds down, we will be continuing to work with the teens through a new curriculum for a winter program. Teens will work alongside staff in preparing TUTC projects for both Spring and Summer of 2023.
