We are so excited to share the calendar for our Arbor Week celebrations with you! We have an event every day from Aril 24th through May 1, culminating in a Tree Giveaway in Nubian Square as part of Savor The Square. Celebrate Boston's trees with events ranging from a movie screening of Intelligent Trees with BoSTEM to Tree Meditation at the Arnold Arboretum to educational talks and webinars. Stay tuned - we'll be posting a full calendar soon.

We're Hiring (and hiring and hiring!)

We're gearing up for a busy summer and an even busier 2021. We're now hiring for the following 25 (yes, twenty five!) positions:

  • Full time Community Outreach Manager
    The full-time Community Outreach Manger will help to expand our mission of Tree Equity to Boston by bringing our programs to under-resourced and under-canopied neighborhoods of Boston. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, interns, and volunteers to implement programs throughout the city.

  • Program Coordinator for our summer Teen Urban Tree Corps program
    The TUTC Program Coordinator will have primary responsibility of managing the TUTC program. For approximately 25 hours per week, the Program Coordinator will supervise TUTC youth in the field or at events. An additional 5-10 hours per week will be spent assisting SFTT staff program development, curriculum planning, program evaluation, and/ or networking opportunities.

  • 2-3 Team Leaders for our summer Teen Urban Tree Corps program
    TUTC Team Leader will supervise the TUTC participants. For approximately 20 hours per week, the Team Leader will work with and oversee a 4-5 person group of teens. An additional 5-10 hours per week will be spent assisting the Program Coordinator

  • 20 teens for our Teen Urban Tree Corps program
    We're seeking 20 teens for our 6-week program that provides workforce development opportunities for Boston youth. Through various trips and activities, teens will gain skills in urban forestry and learn about the importance of urban trees and how to plant, care for, and advocate for trees. Teens will also make connections in the world of urban forestry. As a final project, teens will develop a tree planting plan in their community based on what they learned in the program. 25 hours per week at $13.50 / hour. We Need Your Help to Distribute Seedlings

Speak For The Trees is seeking Boston community groups and organizations to distribute free seedlings as a part of our Arbor Week celebrations. We'd like for your organization or group to set up a table, distribute seedlings FOR FREE, and advertise the giveaway event. Tables can be set up anywhere, from a farmers market to a front yard. 

We will give you seedlings and planting instructions with each seedling. Each group requesting seedlings will receive a mix of the following 5 species: Persimmon, Fraiser Fir, Bur Oak, White Oak, and Black Tupelo. To get involved, fill out this form.

Calling Urban Forest Friends
Join us on Friday, April 9th

The next Boston Urban Forest Friends (BUFF) meeting is this Friday, April 9th, from 11:00am-12:00pm EST. In this meeting we will be learning about the Boston Urban Forest Plan from Maggie Owens from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and Rachel Comte from Urban Canopy Works. The Urban Forest Plan and the Healthy Places collaboration (a joint initiative between the Heat Resilience Study, Urban Forest Plan, and Open Space and Recreation Plan) will take center stage at this meeting. Meeting registration can be found at this link. Increasing Biodiversity in Your Yard

This month's USDA Forest Service "Urban Forest Connections" series features Dr. Susannah Lerman and Dr. Vince D’Amico of the USDA Forest Service and Randy Miller from CN Utility Consulting discussing how homeowners, home renters, organizations, and individuals can increase biodiversity and influence land management decisions. Dynamics of local woodland ecosystems will also be explored. The webinar is from 1:00-2:15 EST on Wednesday, April 14th.
