Reflections on Arbor Week
And explore our new Ⓣ is for Tree Project

What a week! From meditation to webinars to celebrations and free trees, our first ArborWeek celebration was a huge success.  We needed to take a week just to catch our breaths. Read below for our reflections. Missed an event? No worries, we have them for you online.

Not sure about you, , but we are feeling extra inspired to continue working towards an equitable & healthy urban canopy in Boston.

As we embark on a summer of events, education, and outreach, we invite you to join help in growing our forest and sharing the importance of trees in our city.

Together, we can grow the health and resilience of Boston.

Guided Meditations

"Coming straight to the Arboretum from the Roxbury Tree Giveaway event had me super excited to share my love for trees and soak in the serenity of Hemlock Hill. I feel so blessed to have had such kind attendees, who were so eager to talk about forest bathing and resonate with the session. Thank you all for coming, I cannot express my gratitude enough!"

- Megan

Missed the meditation? Take some time on your own with the trees. The trees are waiting for you.

Our Experience Studying the Effects of Climate Change on New England Forests

"I was so glad that I was able to run this event with my amazing research mentor, Jamie Harrison, and share some of the coolest but often overlooked aspects of our research together! And even more glad that our audience was so receptive and curious to learn more!" - Megan

Exploring Trees and Equity in Boston through Literature

"I loved planning and getting in contact with Kathrine Devine, a Boston Public Library librarian, to collaborate with and create a LibGuide on tree equity and teaching the public on the importance of trees. It was exciting to finally present our work at the Exploring Trees and Equity in Boston through Literature event; having a poetry reading from the poet, Erica Charis-Molling, was a great addition to introduce our LibGuide." - Ricardo

Trees, Faith, and Tradition

Nearly 20 people joined a zoom roundtable on "Trees, Faith, and Tradition" to hear from Rev. and Chief of Energy, Environment, and Open Space Mariama White-Hammond, Rabbi Shoshana Meira Friedman, and Professor Chris Ives. The speakers explored trees as a space of hope, rebirth, and change in the era of climate change.

Savor the Square

Oh what a day for the first Savor the Square event of 2021! It started rainy and cold, but by 10am the skies cleared and the trees arrived. Before we knew it, all 125 trees - a mixture of redbud, black tupelo, bur oak, and others - found a new home in local residents' yards. There was music, food, and vendors sharing their crafts and EJ work, including tables from ACE and Friends of MCB. Thank you for our partners, especially The American City Coalition and Natixis, for supporting the event. We look forward to making this an annual event. Stay tuned!

Appreciate the trees on your commute with "Ⓣ is for Tree"

Anyone who knows Boston knows how the MBTA  (the "Ⓣ") connects us to the city much like our urban forest does. We had the pleasure of working with students from MassArt and Wentworth to develop a fun way to share our tree stories on the Ⓣ: Ⓣ is For Tree  sheds light on the trees we see from the Ⓣ on our everyday journeys. Through the website, we invite you to shares appreciation for trees in our shared daily lives.

At tfortree.org, you can contribute photos or thoughts to a community tree forum, explore trees along the T with community submissions, and learn about species identification.
