We had a great conversation with NBC Boston about the critical need for watering trees this summer. Missed it? No worries - you can catch it here.

Our teens continue to work to strengthen our urban forest

As the summer continues, our Teen Urban Tree Corps youth have continued their watering routes, field trips, and lessons. They have been watering 3 days a week, and they are now experts not only in use of the hydrant, but also in weeding and mulching.

They've received lessons from guests such as Rev. Mariama, the City of Boston’s Chief of the Environment, Energy, and Open Spaces Department. She was able to give our teens insight about her career experience and the future challenges that Boston may face due to climate change. Our teens were also visited by artists Claudia Paraschiv and Azia Carle, who allowed our teens to participate in their art installation project "Continuity in Growth''. They've also visited Harvard Forest, took the Harbor Islands ferry to Spectacle Island, and rode a bucket truck at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

We'd also like to thank all of those who came and supported our youth as they mulched trees last Wednesday. By mulching the trees they have been watering we help them stay in good health and shade us for many years to come.

Community Tree Stories: Exploring Healthy Environments in East Boston

On Tuesday, July 26th Speak for the Trees hosted its second community meeting in East Boston with with the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH). We hosted an enthusiastic group of concerned residents from all over South America who want more trees in their communities in East Boston.

During the storytelling workshop, the group was highly interested in writing about their experiences and equally energetic while sharing them with each other.

Gracias a todos los que participaron y compartieron sus historias con nosotros, ¡fue increíble! (Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their stories, it was amazing!)

This EPA-funded project, Community Tree Stories, is in partnership with three community-based organizations as well as EmVision, Everyday Boston, Boston University’s URBAN program, and American Forests. Together, these partners will co-develop a series of community tree walks in three EJ neighborhoods of Boston - Mattapan, Dorchester, and East Boston, — for residents, municipal officials, and researchers to explore and deepen their understanding of the intersections of Environmental Justice, clean air, and tree canopy cover. We hope you can join us in future meetings and walks!
