We are excited to share that after eight years as Speak for the Trees, we’re turning over a new leaf with a new name and logo! The name Tree Boston more clearly reflects our mission, and our new logo, a tree growing into an iconic Boston “B,” is simple, recognizable, and uniquely ours.

This rebranding also provided us the opportunity to take a step back and reflect on our work, our values, and our why. I can’t capture it any better than Jerel Ferguson, our Director of Community Outreach & Engagement, does in his remarks below.
At Tree Boston, the word tree is not just a noun, it’s a verb and an action we take together. With your continued partnership, we look forward to Treeing Boston for decades to come.

Our “Why”
When we started the process of changing our name and logo, we recommitted to our core beliefs:
- Urban resilience is essential in an era of climate change.
- Every resident deserves a healthy urban environment, regardless of zip code.
- Strong and green neighborhoods foster safety, cohesion, and collective pride.
- Residents are not bystanders in environmental change, they are leaders in it.
As we transition to Tree Boston, our purpose becomes even clearer. We are not simply planting trees. We are cultivating systems of care, ownership, and equity that sustain both canopy and community.
We do this work because environmental inequity is public health inequity.
We do this work because heat, flooding, and air pollution doesn’t impact all neighborhoods.
We do this work because trees are assets, positive infrastructure.
We do this work because dignity, shade, beauty, and clean air should not be luxuries.
We do this work with residents.
We do this work for future generations.
We do this work because the neighborhoods that have endured the most neglect deserve the most attention.
Like everything meant to create lasting change, it begins with a seed. And we are committed to planting them wisely.
