In celebration of Arbor Week, Speak for the Trees is offering Boston community groups, schools, and nonprofits FREE seedlings to distribute in their communities. Mature trees sequester substantial amounts of carbon, something that saplings cannot accomplish for decades. The loss of even a single tree impacts air quality, heat levels, and storm water drainage. Our final tree event of the season! Looking to be outdoors, getting your hands dirty, and building Boston’s urban canopy? Join us as we plant 40 trees at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park. No previous experience or tools necessary. Please come prepared for a day of fun wearing long pants and close-toed shoes. This planting is supported with a generous grant from TD Bank.

Join us at City Natives in Mattapan to pick up a free tree to plant at home! We’ll have American Hophornbeam, Eastern Redbud, Sweetgum, and Trident Maple. Sign up in advance to reserve your tree. Walk ups welcome, but we can’t guarantee a tree for you.

As part of Climate Preparedness Week 2021, join Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW) and Speak for the Trees for a discussion on the importance of urban forests to combat climate change impacts such as extreme heat.

Join Reverend Mariama White-Hammond, Rabbi Shoshana Meira Friedman, and Professor Chris Ives for a roundtable conversation about the role of trees in faith and justice. We’ll explore the role that trees have played in the history of different faiths and how trees continue to be a powerful metaphor and object for continued environmental activism and action.
