Speak for the Trees, Boston is seeking a passionate and creative social media intern to help refine and expand our social media strategy. This internship is an opportunity to make a high-impact contribution to an organization working at the intersection of environmental justice, community engagement, and urban forestry.
We are looking for a candidate who is well versed in graphic design and video editing software and can readily produce digital graphics, video content, and print materials that highlight our work. We are a small nonprofit looking to grow our online presence to reach a broader audience of community members, corporate sponsors, and potential donors.
Responsibilities include
- In alignment with current branding guidelines, design refreshed visual assets for the organization’s brand relaunch using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and other creative tools.
- Produce short- and long-form videos, motion graphics, and simple animations for various social media platforms to highlight the organization’s impact, programs, and community stories.
- Create launch-specific graphics, templates, and storytelling content that aligns with established design guidelines, strengthens current brand identity and increases audience engagement.
- Assist with creation of high-impact messaging and written content that amplifies rebranding and focuses on the organization’s programming.
- Develop and write blog posts for the website, social media captions, and other content.
- Assist in the development and implementation of social media campaigns and calendars to increase brand awareness and engagement.
- Manage a content calendar for various social media platforms.
- Track and analyze social media analytics to measure campaign success and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
Workplace
The intern will collaborate closely with our team to align visual identity with Speak for the Trees’ mission, values, and voice. Team members most closely involved with this role are:

- Lisa Crist (Director of Advancement)
- Other staff as needed.
Position Details
- Paid through MassCEC internship program at $18/hour; expected to be in office once per week; remainder of time can be remote. This position is part time, 12-18 hours per week.
- In-office days are Wednesdays and Thursdays at our Dorchester office, near Fields Corner stop on the Red Line.
- Must be eligible to receive funding through MassCEC (we’ll help guide you through the application process)
What You Bring
- Experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with creating images, reels/stories, and videos
- Proficiency with video and audio editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro, Audition, or similar tools)
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Canva to design branded visual content
- A collaborative working style and comfort working in a small and growing organization
- Openness to experimentation and a willingness to shape new visual ideas
- A passion for tree equity, climate justice, and community engagement
